BELMOND — The Belmond-Klemme Jazz Band opened its competition season with a top finish, earning first place at the Triton Jazz Festival held last week at Iowa Central Community College.

The festival, hosted at Iowa Central Community College, marked the first competition of the season for the jazz ensemble from the Belmond-Klemme Community School District.

In addition to the group’s first-place performance, three students were recognized with Outstanding Soloist Awards. Andrick Rodriguez, Will Hinman and Callum Sifert each received individual honors for their solo performances during the competition.

According to the school district, students also represented the program positively off the stage, demonstrating kindness and respect toward fellow bands, clinicians and one another throughout the event.

The Triton Jazz Festival brings together school jazz programs from across the region for adjudicated performances and educational feedback from experienced clinicians.
